::New Project::, Sugar Fix, Rahtze (and not Angel Ice)

At the Transit Lounge at The Metro

(yeah yeah, its been a month and a half since I've seen any live music - its a busy time of year...)

Yet again, we missed out on seeing Angel Ice... They were listed as being the first band to play, but weren't... That may have had something to do with Yvette pouring a drink over Andrew (who I believe was promoting/running the gig) the Friday night before at Blink ;-) I suspect there is a good reason why they didn't play, but its the third time I've tried to see them now - one day I'll get there... They were replaced on the night with a 2 piece punk band called Euminal - punk is not really my sort of music, so I won't comment further than saying that they make a lot of noise for a 2 piece outfit...

Rahtze were good - good with moments of greatness, these guys could turn into something big if they keep at it...

Sugar Fix is Andrews band - this was the first time I made it along to see them. They're OK, a bit noisy without enough else happening to keep my interest focused most of the time. One song I couldn't help but sing along with at the start, but it only _sounded_ like Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins, it wasn't actually that song ;-)

New Project were clearly the band most people were here to see, and its clear why. They opened up with smoke machines, a big sequenced horn/string sounding intro, and an over the top theatrical entrance. Fortunately, they didn't take themselves as seriously as, say, Rammstein while they were doing it (so I didn't end up having to leave 'cause I was giggling so much like when I saw Rammstein at BDO ;-), but they did display that they've quite likely got the ideas to be able to move from "pub rock" to "stadium rock" complete with all the extra fanfare required to succeed on a larger stage. It'll be interesting to see if they can start earning enough gigging to start spending cash on more serious stage shows - a big lighting rig and perhaps a video projection system would really suit their show. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for there guys...

My Friend The Chocolate Cake

At the Speigeltent, which has been set up for the first time in Sydney in The Domain near the Art Gallery. (8 Nov 03 - 18 Dec 03)

Hmmm, a _real_ string section... Violin, chello, and double bass, along with piano, mandolin, and guitar (and, briefly, tin whistle!)

"Dreaming is a casual thing you do if you believe
in just by chance one day the lovely things will come true.
But he's well past thinking that,
It's now a day by day proposal
he's lost the magic Ð christ he'd like to get it back now

Get it back now
Get it back now"

Art Imitates Crime

We went to see Angel Ice, but we missed them
(whats with the headline act _not_ playing last???).
But we saw Art Imitates Crime instead...

I wonder if the band name is a sideways reference to Poetic Terrorism???
"Art as crime; crime as art."...
I did pick up Angel Ice's CD tho...
